The Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike made good his threat to institute a law suit against the PDP presidential candidate in relation to their party’s primaries election conducted between May 28-29, 2022.
WIKE’S REASONS FOR GOING TO COURT
- He is not happy on how the Primaries election was conducted.
- He claimed that votes from Tambuwal supporters supposed to be his (Wike’s) votes as the Sokoto governor has agreed earlier to work with him.
- Tambuwal switched side and declared support for former VP Atiku and the eventual winner.
- Wike was disillusioned by the PDP chairman, Ayu praising Tambuwal for stepping down for Atiku Abubakar.
WIKE’S PRAYER TO THE COURT.
- Asking the Court to nullify the presumed votes that Gov Tambuwal should have received.
- The court should cancel the “transfer of Tambuwal votes” and order a restraining on Tambuwal’s withdrawal from the primary when voting has already commenced.
- The court should declare that the PDP and Atiku took undue advantage of Tambuwal’s withdrawal as the Sokoto governor persuaded his delegates to vote for Atiku.
- Court should order the PDP to recount the votes excluding those from Tambuwal’s base.
- The court should also order INEC to remove Atiku from list of candidates in the 2023 presidential election.
- The Court should declare him (Wike) the winner of the PDP primaries and candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
I DON’T THINK THE GRIEVANCES ARE ENOUGH TO CANCEL THE RESULT OR REVISIT THE PROCEDURE OF THE PDP PRIMARIES.
Wike’s lawyers should have read the section 285(9) of the constitution (altered) regarding pre-election matters before engaging in this self destruct adventure.
